Simon Lelieveldt discusses the background of the decision of cities to not accept cash for payment. He concludes this is not desirable and explains that this is also the general view of the Dutch National Forum on Payment Systems. In addition he explains the benefits of cash in terms of learning to control payments and impulses. This is the consequence of the pain of payments, that occurs during cash payments and may well have it’s origins in the very early childhood.
